Linda Dunaway

Linda Dunaway, 74, of Waynesboro, Georgia, passed away on September 8, 2023. She grew up in Kingston, Tennessee, and graduated from Roane County High School and Tennessee Technological University.

Linda was a loving wife, mother, Nana, and friend. She cherished her family and friends and always looked forward to weekends at the lake, beach trips, and outings with the tennis girls. Linda's passion for education led her to teach high school English for over 30 years at Waynesboro High School and Burke County High School. Her classroom was described as tough but fair, and she had high expectations for each student. She was selected as the Star Teacher on multiple occasions. However, her greatest sense of accomplishment came from learning of the success of her former students in college and in life.

Linda is survived by her husband of 54 years, Bill Dunaway, her son Tom Dunaway, and his wife Lorraine, as well as her grandchildren Katherine and Thomas Dunaway. She is also survived by her sister Pat McKinney of Memphis, Ingram Mills, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Pauline Isom, and her brother John Isom.

Linda was a dedicated member of Waynesboro First Methodist Church where the congregation served as an extension of her family for many years.

The family is deeply grateful for the loving care provided by Jill Posey, Vickie Bates, Felicia Griffin, Angel Styburski, and Twanna Hankerson.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023, at Waynesboro First Methodist Church. Visitation will begin at 10am in the Social Hall, followed by the memorial service at 11am in the Sanctuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Waynesboro First Methodist Church.
