Carol Benson Murray, age 90 of Burkeland Road, Waynesboro ,Ga. died April 8, 2026 in the Burke Medical Center.
Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, April 12, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Burke Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with Reverend Keith Cox officiating. Visitation will be held after the service. Entombment will follow in the Burke Memorial Garden Mausoleum . Honorary Pallbearers: Johnny Christian, Billy Mims, Bob Phillips, Daniel Gelderman, Byron Gelderman, Donnie North, and Mitch McGill.
A native of Augusta, GA, Carol was born December 23, 1935 to Otis Marvin Benson, Sr. and Bernice Hutcheson Benson. She graduated from the Academy of Richmond County and attended the Junior College of Augusta. She was a homemaker.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents and by her spouse of sixty-two years, Byron L, Lamar Murray, Jr. She also is preceded in death by her brother, Otis Marvin Benson, Jr. She leaves a legacy with her son, Byron Lamar Murray, III, her daughter Karen Murray Rowland (Tommy), her son Stephen Benson Murray, Sr. (Jennifer), her son Brian Carroll Murray (Mary Gusta, and her nephew Daniel Alan Gelderman, Sr. (Deborah). She had six loving grandchildren, Ryan Rowland (Greer), Tyler Benson Rowland, Hallie Ann Murray, Mary-Lynn Murray Pennington (Reid), Stephen Benson Murray, Jr. (Kate) and Brian Roberts Murray. She has five great grandchildren, Carolyn Jane Rowland, Catherine Ryan Rowland, Thomas Daniel Pennington , Stephen Benson Murray, III and Davis Murray Pennington. She leaves behind a sister in law, Marsha Murray Greiner along with many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, and a special friend Jane Mitchell
The family would like to give a special thanks to April Riggs, Johnny Christian, Inez Jenkins, Christine Crawford, Judy Church, Mattie Walker, the staff of the Burke Health and Tori McMillian and Martha Crumbley at University Home Health.
