Dr. Joseph “Joe” Lawrence Jackson Jr, 54, died Wednesday, April 29, 2026.
He was a 1990 graduate and valedictorian of Burke County High School. Dr. Jackson completed his undergraduate studies at Furman University, where he was a Golf Academic All-American.
He received his MD from the Medical College of Georgia and completed his residency at Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Florida. Afterward, he began a career as a family medicine physician at Medical Specialists Inc. in Waynesboro, Georgia, where he practiced for more than 23 years.
Dr. Jackon was an avid sportsman and enjoyed spending time in the woods and on the water. He had a quiet appreciation of the outdoors and enjoyed the challenge of tracking game. He shared this love with his wife and children and passed down many of his skills.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Stacy Goldenberg Jackson; a daughter, Mary Catherine Buna Jackson and her fiancé Jed Osborn; a son, Joseph Lawrence Jackson III; his parents, Dr. Joseph Lawrence “Larry” Jackson Sr. and Nancy Garrett Jackson; a brother Christopher Scott Jackson (Megan); and his parents-in-law, Jack and Cathy Goldenberg. He is predeceased by his brother, Benjamin Garrett Jackson.
He is deeply loved by his family and will be missed by them, as well as the multitudes of patients he faithfully served over the decades.
A private service was held.
