Edward Mason Gibbs went home to our Lord on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at his home in Hayesville, NC at the age of 84. He was surrounded by his loving wife, Rosetta Gibbs and sons Wesley and Anthony Woods.
Edward Gibbs was born to Jim and Margaret Gibbs on May 21, 1939 in Gainesville, Georgia. Edward, or Ed to those who loved him, was an avid golfer and handyman. If he was not at work fixing things around his home, he was out on the golf course dominating the driving range or hitting 18 holes. He enjoyed visiting his brother's home, the beautiful Gibbs Gardens, and would tell everyone he met to go and see its splendor. He served our country in the Army and ultimately graduated from Young Harris College in Young Harris, Georgia and received a Bachelor's Degree. He then moved to Atlanta where he eventually met his loving and devoted wife, Rosetta Gibbs.
In 1967, Edward met Rosetta, a match truly made in heaven. Rosetta and Edward met at a party and found that they were truly meant for each other after several months of dating and were eventually married on November 4, 1967. Ed became the stepfather to Rosetta's two children, Robert Wesley Woods and Anthony Wayne Woods.
Edward joins his mother and father in Heaven. He is survived by his wife Rosetta Gibbs, his brother Jimmy Gibbs and sister Elizabeth Roberts, two sons, Robert Wesley Woods and Anthony Wayne Woods, his daughters-in-law Sharon Marie Woods and Katherine Woods, and grandchildren Brittany Marie Woods and Jeremiah Wesley Woods.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Friday, December 22 at the Burke Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Keith Cox officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery Waynesboro, Georgia.
Burke Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
"You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."
