James Earl Spires, age 64, passed away on September 17, 2022, at Augusta University Hospital. James was retired from the Burke County Road Department and also worked at BAS Inc. and C & R Irrigation. James was born in Swainsboro, Georgia, and lived most of his life in Burke County. He was preceded in death by his son Johnny Lamar Johnson and his brother Clinton Roger Spires.
Survivors include his parents Jimmy and Esther Spires of Alexander. His wife of 34 years, Grace Spires of Waynesboro. Children Jeanette Jenkins (Craig) of Savannah. His brother Vincent Spires (Marsha) of Waynesboro and sister Christine Smith of Athens. His grandchildren include Carolyn (CJ) Sapp (Zach) of Sardis, Joshua Jenkins of Sardis, and Payton "Tyler" Johnson (Lauren) of Swainsboro. Great-grandchildren include Karleigh. Brandon, and Ezekiel.
Pallbearers include Norbert Tobias Jr., David Everett, Larry Buxton, Billy Ray Brown, Zach Sapp, and Jimmy Posey.
Memorials can be made to Corinth Christian Church, Girard.
Visitation will be held on September 19, 2022, at Burke Memorial Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Graveside services will be held on September 20, 2022, at Corinth Christian Church at 11 a.m. with Ernest Johnson officiating.
Burke Memorial Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
