Martha Jean Brantley Obituary

Martha Jean Brantley passed away on July 4, 2024 in Waynesboro, GA at the age of 86. She was at home surrounded by her family. Martha Jean was born May 15, 1938, in Irondale, Alabama to Issac and Eula Mae Deason. She was one of three children (brothers, James and Melvin).

Martha Jean met Jack in Birmingham, Alabama.  They married on April 11, 1959. Martha Jean and Jack were stationed at many different U.S. Army bases for the next 23 years.  They lived happily together with their sons, Michael and Kevin.  Martha Jean was a devoted wife and loving Mother, while Jack was serving our country.

In 1979, Jack retired from active duty, and the family moved to Waynesboro, GA.  Martha Jean began her career with Georgia Power Company, at Plant Vogtle.  She left plant Vogtle in 1988.  She continued her career with Georgia Power at the District office in Waynesboro, GA.  She retired from GPC in January 1997. Jack and Martha Jean spent many years of retirement together, traveling and visiting with family and friends.

Martha Jean was a longtime member of First Baptist Church and was a member of the Spairs and Pairs Sunday School class. Her favorite hobby was sewing and making smocked outfits for her grandchildren.

Martha Jean is survived by; her brother James Deason (Wilene), son John Michael Brantley (Debbie); son Thomas Kevin Brantley; 3 grandchildren, Abbey Brantley Gay (Bobby), Jackson Deason Brantley, Jenna Grace Brantley; great grandson Deason Joseph Gay, and several nieces and nephews.

Martha Jean is preceded in death by her husband (JackBrantley), her father and mother (Issac and Eula Mae Deason)and brother (Mel Deason).

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at 10:00am at the First Baptist Church of Waynesboro, 853 N Liberty St, Waynesboro, GA. The Memorial service will be held following visitation at 11:00am with the Reverend Doctor Al Wright.Pallbearers are Jackson Brantley, Bobby Gay, Mike Hood, Jr., James Coble, Joel Coble and Johnny Christian. Honorary Pallbearers are the Spares and Pairs Sunday School class. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Gardens.
