Ruby (Odom) Barefield

Ruby Odom Barefield, age 101, of Alexander, Ga., entered into the Kingdom of Heaven on May 1st, 2023 at home under the loving care of Sharon Williams and family.  Ruby was born to James and Pearl Odom on October 2nd, 1921.  She was married to the late James Woodrow Barefield and was preceded in death by her daughter Sylvia Moore, son, James Barefield Jr., son, Timothy Barefield, son, Thomas Barefield, daughter Virginia Day, granddaughter Julie Barefield, granddaughter Jessica Hopper, grandson Clay Barefield, grandson Brian Godbee, granddaughter Michelle Mobley, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

Ruby is survived by daughter Lynn Myers (Billy), son Ralph Barefield (Lena), son Randy Barefield, daughter Mary Godbee, daughter Susan Jones (Bob), daughter-in-law, Susie Barefield, and son-in-law, Larry Day, 16 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and numerous great-great- grandchildren.

As a lifelong resident of Burke County, Ruby worked at the True Citizen for 40 years until the age of 96. She was a dedicated wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend to many. After 101 years of caring for others, we are celebrating her being able to reunite with her family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Burke Memorial Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. prior to the graveside service at Bethel cemetery.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 4th at 12:30 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church cemetery in Alexander, with Gary Jenkins officiating.

Pallbearers will be Cameron Barefield, Hunter Dixon, Braxton Hopper, Carson Hopper, Nicholas Jones, Caleb Jones, Jonathan Montoya, Elijah Myers.  Honorary pallbearers will be the remaining great grandsons, Keegan, Caden, Samuel, Ryan, Gavin, Maxon, Jack, Jeffrey, Dylan, Nicholas.

Visitation will be held at Burke Memorial Funeral Home from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm prior to the graveside service at Bethel cemetery.

Burke Memorial Funeral Home is charge of arrangements.
